DescriptionEmbroidered WWI postcard. Embroidered trasparent fabric on front forming mini-envelope with Royal Engineers crest on flap and British and French flags below. Small card tucked inside mini-envelope. On reverse of postcard "Leaving will write as soon as possible / Ted", no address.
CommentsThese embroidered postcards were very popular with British soliders in the First World War, although they were seldom sent through the post due to their fragility and cost. The hand embroidery is thought to have been carried out in homes as 'out-work' by civilians in France and Belgium, and in the UK by Belgian refugees. The lack of address on this one indicates it was probably sent accompanying a letter.
