Frequently Asked Questions
Can I view an object or document in person?
We provide access to the Harrow Local History Collection and Archive via an appointment only system, in person at Headstone Manor. If you would like to request an appointment to see an item from the Local History Collection please email our Collections Team on
collections@headstonemanor.org detailing the nature of your research and the item(s) you would like to see.
If you would like to view an object from the Museum Trust's Collection please email collections@headstonemanor.org. Requests to view objects from the Museum Trust's Collection are assessed on a case by case basis, and are on a much more limited basis due to the nature of the Collection.
See our Collections Appointment page for more information (
https://headstonemanor.org/the-collection/collections-appointments/).
What if I can’t get to Headstone Manor to view the object?
We do offer remote services including document scanning and research. They are charged services. See our fees and charges page for more information (
https://headstonemanor.org/wp-content/uploads/Fees-and-Charges.pdf).
How can I tell if the entry I'm looking at is part of the Harrow Museum Trust's Collection or the Harrow Local History Collection and Archive?
The object entry's reference number will begin with HMT if the object is part of the Museum Trust's Collection. Museum Collection objects also have object numbers beginning with a four-digit year code, eg. 1993:1.
If the item is from the Archive the reference number will begin with the Archive’s Archon code GB1102. Archive items do not have object numbers.
I can't find what I'm looking for on the catalogue?
We are still in the process of digitising our paper catalogue records from the Museum Collection and cataloguing the Archive. As such the record for the item you are interested in may not yet be online. If you would like to enquire about an object, photograph or document which doesn't appear to be listed on our online catalogue please email our collections team on
Collections@headstonemanor.org.
Why do some entries not have images attached?
If an entry does not have an image attached it will be for one of two reasons. Firstly, it may be because the object has not yet been photographed. This does not mean that the object will never be available to view online. Alternatively, an image may not be available to view due to copyright or data privacy restrictions. We are endeavouring to obtain clearance where possible on all images in the collections.
Can I use images from the catalogue in my research/exhibition/publication/etc.?
You may use the images and information on the catalogue for personal study or research, but note that UK copyright law applies to all records.
Please contact the Collections Team at Headstone Manor on Collections@headstonemanor.org if you would like to obtain permission to reproduce or use any images from the catalogue for public display, publication, or other commercial purposes; or if you would like a copy of an image without the watermark for personal study or research.
See our fees and charges page for more information (
https://headstonemanor.org/wp-content/uploads/Fees-and-Charges.pdf).
How do I donate objects to the Museum?
If you would like to speak to a member of the Collections Team about donating an object, photograph or document to the Museum or Archive please email
collections@headstonemanor.org.
