RepositoryHarrow Museum Collection

ObjectNumber2017:124
DescriptionWhitefriars rectangle of Norman slab glass (irregular shape), in Meadow Green. For producing stained glass windows.
CommentsNorman slab glass is cut from a Norman slab bottle. The bottle is formed by blowing glass into a cube mould which is then cut at the corners to make sheets of Norman slab glass. The thickness of the glass, ranging from very thick at the centre of the pane, to very thin at the edges, transmits light in a particularly rich fashion.
