DescriptionWhitefriars Bark vase from the Textured Range, in Kingfisher. Pattern 9689.
CommentsGeoffrey Baxter design. In 1967, Whitefriars launched the 'textured range', full of irregular shapes, rough textures, and bright non-primary colours. They were designed by Geoffrey Baxter, who produced the original moulds at home in his garage using carved wood and tree bark. Once complete, the wooden moulds were translated into durable metal versions. The resulting glassware has become synonymous with Whitefriars.
This colour appears in the sales catalogue in 1969 only. It was available in Blue and Ruby in 1964 and 1966; in Kingfisher & Ruby in 1969; and the form does not appear at all from 1972 onwards.
