Description | The Working Life category contains objects related to any type of work undertaken for commercial gain, despite the setting (industrial or domestic). It has some overlap with Community Life, and objects are therefore classed by whether the work is provided as commercial (Working Life) or as a service (Community Life).
According to the SHIC system, it is divided into ten further sub-categories:
HMC/S/1/0 - General and unprovenanced HMC/S/1/1 - Agricultural, forestry, and fishing HMC/S/1/2 - Energy and water supply industries HMC/S/1/3 - Extraction of minerals; manufacture of non-metallic mineral products and chemicals HMC/S/1/4 - Extraction of metallic ores; manufacture of metals and metal goods; engineering industries HMC/S/1/5 - Manufacturing industries not elsewhere specified HMC/S/1/6 - Construction HMC/S/1/7 - Transportation and communication HMC/S/1/8 - Distribution; hotels and catering; repairs HMC/S/1/9 - Other working life
Currently, all objects are catalogued under HMC/S/4. Future cataloguing projects at Headstone Manor & Museum will see objects sorted into their proper sub-categories.
