CommentsClipping accompanying the photograph:
"The Pinner High Street buildings now known as the Hand in Hand, with the Wine Growers' Association shop next door, have in part reverted to their use long ago.
The shops were at one time owned by the prosperous firm of F. Gurney and Son and, as the old picture on the right shows, the sale of alcohol was a considerable part of their business, although they were also grocers in a big way.
Note the artistic arrangement of he produce -- a familiar feature in those days.
At the time the picture was taken, there appears to have been a staff of ten, presumably including the owners."
