DescriptionWhitefriars Norman slab glass bottle, in Amber. Hollow rectangular box with bulbous top where glass has been blown.
CommentsTraditional stained glass is made by blowing a large cylindrical bubbled that is split lengthwise and flattened into a sheet. A Norman slab bottle is blown into a cube mould which is then cut at the corners to make sheets of Norman slab glass. The thickness of the glass, ranging from very thick at the centre of the pane, to very thin at the edges, transmits light in a particularly rich fashion.
