DescriptionBlack and White photographic print showing Monks Rest from the street. Gate to drive visible in front, with large trees surrounding the house. Photograph itself has rounded corners and appears to have been coloured/etched with whitish-blue pencil over some areas of trees and the house façade. On back, notes in pen and pencil, contradicting each other as to street name - Pinner Hill, Hillside Road, and Potter Street all mentioned. "UXBRIDGE" photograph label with print information affixed to back.
CommentsAccording to Druett in "Ruislip-Nortwood through the Ages" (page 197) it was formerly The Friars Rest at Horley, Sussex, a rest house for poor travellers, built about 1400. It was dismantled and exhibited at the Ideal Homes Exhibition and transferred in 1926 to Hillside Road
