Description | Domestic life refers to activities and materials relating to the family unit, and not the individual (see Personal Life). It includes material relating to the home and typical household activities, but does not include cottage industries (see Working Life).
According to the SHIC system, it is divided into ten further sub-categories:
HMC/S/1/0 - General HMC/S/1/1 - Domestic and family administration and records HMC/S/1/2 - House structure and infrastructure HMC/S/1/3 - Heating, lighting, water, and sanitation HMC/S/1/4 - Furnishing and fittings HMC/S/1/5 - Household management HMC/S/1/6 - Food, drink, and tobacco HMC/S/1/7 - Family wellbeing HMC/S/1/8 - Hobbies, crafts, and pastimes HMC/S/1/9 - Domestic life not elsewhere specified
Currently, all objects are catalogued under HMC/S/2. Future cataloguing projects at Headstone Manor & Museum will see objects sorted into their proper sub-categories.
